Khianna Lewis - Project Lead

I was in an abusive relationship for over 15 years and once I finally found the courage to leave, I thought I was free, but I was arrested and sentenced to 17 years, so much for being free.

Initially, I struggled to adjust and wasn't the best prisoner. Over time, though, I began to find myself and understand my circumstances. I came to terms with my journey and realised that it wasn’t the end of the world; I wasn’t the only person incarcerated.

I began cultivating self-love and delved deeper into my identity, aided by various courses and books. This journey not only helped me but also enabled me to support others. I became an advocate within the system and a voice for fellow prisoners.

Going to prison ignited a passion in me to improve myself and share the ups and downs of my experience. Upon my release, I knew I wanted to work with others who were still incarcerated or had just been released like I had. This was not an easy path, but I eventually heard about Unlock My Life and applied.

As one of the newest members of the team I can’t wait to make a positive impact in someone else’s life and show them that no matter how dim the light may be at the end of the tunnel, there is still always one.

What doesn’t kill you can only make you stronger…..
