Laura Kane - Project Lead
In 2017, I was sentenced to 5.5 years in prison, a moment that initially felt like the end of my life. However, instead of succumbing to despair, I chose to make the most of my time behind bars. I enrolled in courses, pursued training, and became actively involved in peer mentoring, all of which helped me grow and transform during my incarceration.
Upon release, I joined a charity organisation focused on supporting individuals within the justice system, using my own experiences to guide and inspire others. This led me to further my journey with Unlock My Life, where I developed a strong passion for mental health issues within the prison system. I am now committed to making a difference in the lives of those who, like myself, face the challenges of the justice system.
My journey is a testament to resilience, growth, and the power of turning adversity into purpose.
3 facts about me:
I bounce my head to go to sleep.
I hate the smell and touch of a newspaper - I cannot be around them.
I can't eat meat off the bone.
